Average Electricity Prices vs Solar Feed-in Tariff Trend
Two lines moving in opposite directions — and why that gap matters for your power bill
The gap is the whole story
The gap between these two lines keeps widening — solar exports pay less, grid power costs more. A battery lets you use your own solar yourself instead of selling it cheap and buying it back expensive.

Monthly Battery Installations
How government rebate changes shifted national installation volume
What caused the April spike?
Installations peaked at 80k (80,364) in April as homeowners rushed to secure maximum rebate value before Federal STC subsidy rates tapered down on May 1st.
Average Battery Size Installed
How the typical system size has changed since the April 2026 peak
Bigger isn't automatically better value anymore
The rebate now tapers above 14kWh, so the market has shifted back toward right-sized systems that match what a household can actually use.
Government Home Battery Rebate Plan
The rebate doesn't fade gradually — it drops in scheduled cuts, twice a year from 2027
Every 6 months, the rebate gets smaller
From 2027 the rebate is legislated to step down twice a year, all the way to 2030. It only ever goes down — so the certificate value locked in today is the highest it'll be from this point on.
STC Factor schedule per DCCEEW / Clean Energy Regulator, current as of the 1 May 2026 program update. Subject to future regulatory change.

Fantastic service. Managed the impossible for us — a top notch 48kw battery just before the rebate ended. Taran is very knowledgeable and I trust his advice. Van is great on the installs. Cannot recommend highly enough.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a home battery system and how does it work?
A home battery stores the excess solar energy your panels generate during the day — power that would otherwise flow back to the grid. You then use that stored energy in the evening or during peak tariff times, cutting your bills and giving you more control over your power.
Do I need solar panels to get a battery?
A battery can technically charge from the grid without solar (which defeats the purpose anyway), but to qualify for the federal rebate it must be paired with a new or existing solar system — standalone batteries aren’t eligible. Pairing a battery with solar also maximises your savings, since you’re storing free sunshine rather than paying for grid power.
Why get a solar battery now?
Electricity prices keep rising while solar feed-in tariffs keep falling, so self-consuming your own power is worth more than exporting it. Government rebates are also at their current highest levels and step down over time, so acting sooner locks in the biggest saving.
Will a battery actually save me money?
Yes — a correctly sized battery stores cheap or free daytime power and uses it instead of expensive grid electricity at night. Many of our customers see their bills fall by well over 90%, with some running a monthly credit.
How much does a solar battery cost?
Typically $5,000–$15,000 after rebates, depending on size, brand and features. We tailor a solution to your budget and make sure you receive every rebate and incentive you’re eligible for.
Is there a government rebate available?
Yes — we apply it directly to your quote so you don’t need to claim anything yourself. The rebate reduces over time, so the earlier you install, the more you save.
Do you offer finance or payment plans?
Yes, we offer flexible payment options so you can start saving sooner without paying the full cost upfront. Ask our team for current plans and rates.
How do I choose the right battery size?
We review your household’s energy usage, solar generation and future plans — such as an EV or a home extension — to recommend a battery that’s right-sized: big enough to cover your evenings without paying for capacity you won’t use.
Can I add a battery to my existing solar system?
Absolutely — almost all existing solar systems can be retrofitted with a battery. We’ll assess your current setup and recommend the best-fit option.
What brands do you offer?
We’re brand-neutral and install top-tier options including Sigenergy, Sungrow, Fox ESS, GoodWe, Anker, AlphaESS and SAJ, each suited to different needs and budgets. Our team recommends the right fit for you rather than pushing one brand.
How long does installation take?
Installation is typically completed in one day by fully licensed, CEC-accredited electricians based in South Australia, with a current lead time of around 2–4 weeks.
What warranty comes with a home battery?
Every battery we install carries a 10-year manufacturer’s warranty, with full documentation provided as part of your installation. Solar Panels carry a 25 year warranty (T&C apply).
What happens on cloudy days or in winter?
If solar output is low and your battery runs down, your home draws from the grid automatically — no interruption. South Australian households can also opt into a retail plan with 3 hours of free daily grid power to top up the battery for free, then use that stored energy through the evening peak. We also size systems with a buffer for seasonal variation to keep your return on investment strong year-round.
Can a battery work during a blackout?
Yes, but only with blackout protection feature enabled. We’ll help you choose a battery suited to your needs and let you know upfront whether it will back up your whole home or just essential circuits.
Are home batteries safe?
Yes — the brands we install meet Australian safety standards and include built-in protection mechanisms. Our CEC-accredited installers also follow strict placement and ventilation guidelines to keep your system safe.
How do I monitor my battery's performance?
All our installations come with a smartphone app showing real-time solar generation, battery charge and household usage, so you can see your savings as they happen. We’ll set this up for you and show you how to use it during installation.
What maintenance does a battery need?
Very little — most systems are maintenance-free, with faults diagnosable remotely by the manufacturer. We recommend an occasional visual check and are on hand if you ever notice a fault or alert.
